Armentarola:
a small corner of paradise in Val Badia

Armentarola is a hamlet in the district of Badia, near San Cassiano in the direction of Falzarego Pass.

It takes its name from the Ladin word Armenc, meaning herd. It was therefore an area used for grazing livestock.

Armentarola is located at an altitude of 1620 m and lies between the Sella and Sassongher massifs, and is nestled between dreamlike panoramas, icefalls and rock faces. Thanks to its strategic and central location, you can enjoy numerous activities that will make you experience the Dolomites in every season.

From here you can set off in summer for some wonderful hikes, to discover Valparola, Lagazuoi with its testimonies of the Great War, and the boundless slopes of the Dolomites.

During the winter, on the other hand,  the most beautiful ski slopes in the world await you, such as the Armentarola slope and the entire Alta Badia area.

Armentarola ski slope:
the perfect winter in the heart of the Dolomites

The Armentarola slope is 7.3 km long and connects Cortina d’Ampezzo with Alta Badia. With an altitude difference of about 700 m, it is considered a red slope of medium difficulty.

The starting point of this incredible track is Falzarego Pass, in Veneto, which can be easily reached by cable car. It ends at Armentarola, from where you can be pulled by horses to the cable car that will take you to the area of Alta Badia.

It is one of the most beautiful and fascinating slopes of the Dolomites. You will pass through rocks, breathtaking views and ice falls. It is impossible not to stop and admire the spectacle of nature that surrounds the Armentarola slope. For example, ice falls are a phenomenon that can be observed throughout the winter: water flows out of the cracks in the rocks, which immediately turns into ice due to the very cold temperatures.

Along the way you can stop in two refuges to rest: the Lagazuoi and the Scotoni refuge. Both located in an enviable position, surrounded by almost magical landscapes, and offer a pleasant stop from the descent. Here you will find a playground and an alpaca enclosure to spend a fantastic day of fun.
